What are Chemical Peels?
If you're looking for a way to minimize skin flaws such as scars, wrinkles, fine lines, dry patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler offers chemical peels at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery. Your professional chemical peel with exfoliating solutions will reveal healthier, smoother skin. Chemical peels dissolve dead, damaged skin cells with an individualized treatment on your skin, which causes the top layer to slough off. When your skin heals and starts to repair and rejuvenate itself, you should see a smoother, clearer complexion. For the highest quality results from chemical peel treatments, we provide you with a variety of chemical peel options, including lactic acid for dry skin, glycolic acid for anti-aging, salicylic acid for those with acne, and the ZO® 3-Step Stimulation Peel. A chemical peel facial is a noninvasive way to make your complexion radiant and is used for the face, neck, and décollatage.
How Do Chemical Peels Work?
During your chemical peel, we will have you lay in a comfortable position while we administer your peel. After washing your treatment areas, we will brush the solution onto the skin and let it set for a specific length of time based on your treatment plan. Finally, we will wash the solution off your skin and put on a neutralizing agent. You should bring sunscreen and a hat to wear outside to protect your skin from UV exposure. Based on the strength of the peel you choose, you can expect the treated area to itch and peel from several days to a couple of weeks. Dr. Steckler or a member of his team will give instructions on ways to treat your face during your appointment. Please remember that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout the healing process, you should never peel the skin off as it could create scarring!
- Lactic Acid: This is a gentle peel that is great for dry or sensitive skin and improves lines and wrinkles, as well as hydrates the skin and reduces age spots.
- Glycolic Acid: This anti-aging peel removes the top layer of skin to reveal a younger-looking layer of skin with a reduced amount of lines and wrinkles.
- Salicylic Acid: This peel is common for those with acne, as it treats acne, blackheads, clogged pores, and more.
- ZO 3-Step Stimulation Peel: This is great for all skin types and is used to treat melasma, lines and wrinkles, sun damage, enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture, acne, and more.
