What is a Tummy Tuck?
For both men and women, hanging skin and excess fat along the abdomen can be frustrating despite efforts to lose it. Pregnancy, weight loss, and aging are the primary reasons why someone may not be able to reclaim a slim and tight stomach. An abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, is a body contouring treatment that successfully transforms the stomach area, producing extraordinary results for patients. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler performs customizable tummy tucks to match your needs and desires. This cosmetic treatment at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery allows individuals in and around Jackson and Madison, MS the opportunity to have a redefined physique and renewed confidence. For more information about how an abdominoplasty can remove excess skin and fat while also tightening your stomach muscles, contact our Ridgeland, MS office to schedule your consultation.
How Does the Tummy Tuck Work?
Your tummy tuck will be performed while you are under general anesthesia. Dr. Steckler will choose the appropriate incision shape and size based on the amount of excess skin. Those with a lot of loose skin might benefit best from an extended tummy tuck, where the incision is from hipbone to hipbone. Others with minimal skin laxity may be better suited for a smaller incision. Regardless of the technique used, all abdominoplasty procedures at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery involve the removal of hanging skin and fat removal. After your tummy tuck, you will be monitored and released wearing a compression device to decrease swelling. Walking and standing will be difficult at first, so you should rest for a couple days. They will become less painful, however, once the tightness subsides and the incision heals. You should be able to resume a normal routine in about two weeks. You can resume exercise after about two months or earlier if you are cleared by Dr. Steckler. You will feel some discomfort and tightness on your stomach, but this will disappear as you recover.
