What is a Breast Reduction?
Abnormally large breasts can cause physical and social setbacks for women. In addition, overly large and unbalanced breasts can create self-confidence issues and overall embarrassment, as well as aches and pains. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler has helped countless women in Madison and Jackson, MS regain their confidence and enjoy the life they want through breast reduction surgery. This aesthetic surgery at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery reduces excess breast tissue and skin to redefine and reshape the breasts to a smaller, more balanced size. Breast reduction surgery also reconstructs the size of the areolas and nipples and repositions them so they appear normal with the new size. In most situations, a breast lift can be implemented to provide a more taut and healthier appearance. For more information, contact our Ridgeland, MS office today.
What Can I Expect from Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction surgery is an outpatient treatment that is performed while you are under general anesthesia. In most cases, liposuction is used for fat and tissue elimination to reduce breast size. Depending on the difficulty of the size and overall reduction, either an inverted-T or a straight line (vertical) incision will be used. Breast fat and tissue will then be removed, and the remaining tissue and skin will be tightened. After surgery, you will be observed in our recovery area and then released home to begin the healing process. A draining tube will most likely be placed near the surgical site to help control swelling and bleeding. You will need to wear a medical sports bra for several days to help improve blood circulation to the breasts. Within about a month, the breasts will position themselves and settle and the post-op effects will dissipate. After breast reduction surgery, you can enjoy the clothes you so desire and feel excited about your new look. The majority of our patients remark that they feel lighter, relieved, and more confident.
