What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic treatment performed to change the appearance of a man or woman's nose. Furthermore, it may help improve breathing function for some patients. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler is an experienced cosmetic facial surgeon who performs rhinoplasty to create the most natural results. Although rhinoplasty consists of delicate changes, results can be beautiful and dramatic. This surgery at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery can be used to make a nose look smaller in size or improve a nose that is wide, too large, or misshaped. The objective is to create a more aesthetically pleasing nose that meets your cosmetic desires and functions as it should. What Can I Expect from Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is performed while you are under general anesthesia, and is usually an outpatient procedure. Depending on your aesthetic goals and concerns, Dr. Steckler will use either an open or closed surgical technique. The goal during your procedure is to reduce excess cartilage, tissue, and bone, or to improve and add cartilage if necessary for reconstruction. Your nose will be repositioned while the skin is reformed and draped over the newly enhanced framework. Stitches are then placed either inside the nose or along the natural external fold so they are easily hidden. After your rhinoplasty, you will be carefully monitored in the recovery space and then be released to heal at home. Your nose and the surrounding area will be bruised and swollen for a few days, and you may experience some discoloration under your eyes. Cold compresses and pain medication can help with this. Your follow-up appointment with Dr. Steckler will be scheduled within the first several days after surgery to assess your healing process. It generally takes around 2 – 4 weeks to heal from nose surgery. During this timeframe, strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided.
