What is a Thigh Lift?
Losing weight is an impressive triumph for any individual. But women and men who make it to their goal weight occasionally need a little extra help to complete their body transformation. Depending on how long you carried the extra weight and how much weight you lost, hanging skin may be a separate difficulty if the skin wasn't able to mold to the new shape and size of your body. The thighs are specifically an area of trouble for many patients. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler offers surgical thigh lifts (also called thighplasty) to men and women in and around Jackson and Madison, MS. This procedure removes excess skin on the outer and inner thighs to create a firmer, more contoured appearance. Thigh lift surgery has increased in popularity because it offers natural results for anyone fighting hanging skin on the thighs. How Does a Surgical Thigh Lift Work?
For a thigh lift, general anesthesia is usually used. During this 2 – 3 hour procedure, an incision is placed in the natural crease where the thigh attaches to the torso and will continue to the mid-thigh. Liposuction will be used to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat, then the excess skin trimmed. Your skin will be stretched upward and tightened and secured with sutures. Depending on your treatment plan, an additional incision may be made under your butt or in the outer thigh area. When your surgery is complete, you will be monitored and then sent home to recover. You will likely experience discomfort, bruising, and swelling. After a few days, you should be able to get up and slowly walk around, which is recommended for better blood circulation and faster healing. Your recovery period should take about 6 – 8 weeks. Closely following your at-home care instructions will help your incision to heal well. Although there will be some scarring, your new shape should help you regain your confidence, and you can show off your legs with pride.
