Surgical Technique
Before your cheek or chin augmentation, Dr. Steckler will complete a thorough assessment to decide on a personalized treatment plan that is ideal for your unique cosmetic goals. Both facial implant options are outpatient procedures. Once you are prepped, thin incisions will be created. If receiving cheek implants, the incisions will be made inside your mouth in the gums and a pocket will be made above the cheekbone; for chin implants, an incision is placed beneath your chin. Next, the implants will be securely placed and the incisions will be sutured. The surgery typically takes about an hour, and you will be allowed to leave with a family member or friend to recover at home. With cheek augmentation surgery, you should expect to experience bruising, swelling, and tightness for 1 – 3 weeks following your procedure. Vigorous activity that will cause your facial muscles to strain (such as weight training) should be skipped during this period. Total healing usually is achieved in about two months, but the outcomes can last for many years. Cold packs and over-the-counter pain relievers can be used to lessen any discomfort.
