What is a Brow Lift?
A surgical brow lift (sometimes known as a browplasty or forehead lift) is a popular cosmetic procedure that helps create a higher brow position, which offers a younger look to the upper area of the face. A sagging brow can frequently cause a tired or angry appearance. A brow lift surgically corrects a drooping brow to give patients a refreshed face by eliminating excess skin, while raising the eyebrows. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler has completed a number of brow lift surgeries on a variety of men and women to create a more youthful appearance. Injectable wrinkle relaxers and fillers are frequently performed in combination with brow lift surgery at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery in Ridgeland, MS for optimal results, producing a smoother and softer look.
What Can I Expect from a Brow Lift?
Prior to surgery, anesthesia is administered to help you remain comfortable. The incision technique used is chosen depending on the severity of sag, if your forehead is being addressed, and the appearance of your hairline. There are many techniques to consider including:
- Traditional Incision: This type of incision is good for those with frown lines or a sagging brow or if you're concerned about a receding hairline.
- Trichophytic Incision: This incision is placed right along your hairline and allows a more dramatic lift in the brow.
- Lateral Brow Lift: A temporal incision allows the outer parts of the brow to be treated and works well for sagging that is visible in the outer brow and to help correct Crow’s feet.
- Endoscopic Forehead Lift: This is a more modern technique that places multiple small incisions in the hairline and inserts the endoscope, which moves down to the area of the eyebrow to release its attached tools. Using the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is suspended with stitches to place the brow in its better position.
Recovery following brow lift surgery varies but generally takes between 2 – 3 weeks. In general, you'll have slight swelling and bruising in the upper portion of the face near the eyebrows and possibly around the eyes. Cold compresses can help to decrease inflammation. Dr. Steckler recommends you sleep upright for at least three nights. It is critical to avoid any movement or activities that may put pressure on your face. The outcome can usually be seen immediately.
