How Does Breast Augmentation Work?
Before your breast augmentation, there are a variety of factors you'll review with Dr. Steckler. This includes implant options, shape, size, incision type, and your desired profile. Your activity level and lifestyle will also play a role in these choices. During your augmentation, the chosen incision is created and then the appropriate breast implant will be placed into its position. From there, the chosen implant will be moved through the incision and deposited into a surgically created pocket, and then fitted into its proper position. Following placement implant, the incision is closed with skin adhesives or sutures. Breast enhancement surgery is performed as an outpatient surgery while you are under general anesthesia. At the end of your surgery, you will be taken to a private recovery space and carefully monitored before being released. You will be sent home wearing a medical sports bra to help reduce swelling. Within a few days, the swelling will begin to decrease, and your breasts will begin to feel normal. While individual results vary, most patients can resume everyday activities within the first week; however, exercise should be avoided for approximately 6 – 8 weeks. Many of our patients find that scarring is minimal.
