What is IPL?
If you are concerned about how your skin appears because of sun damage or dark spots, Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery can perform a skin analysis to determine if you would benefit from intense pulsed light therapy (IPL). IPL is a rejuvenating skin treatment for men and women in and around Jackson and Madison, MS with hyperpigmentation issues on their face and neck. IPL may not be an invasive process, but it can be very effective and create impressive outcomes. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler uses Lumecca technology to send intense pulses of light that raise the temperature of the skin cells to ignite the natural healing process and increase collagen production. Over time, you should begin to see a healthier layer with an improved tone and fewer spots of pigmentation. For more information, contact our Ridgeland, MS office to schedule a consultation.
What Can I Expect from IPL?
IPL is completed at our office in around 20 – 30 minutes. To prepare, we will wash and dry your skin before covering your eyes with special shields. IPL is performed using the Lumecca handheld device that evenly emits light energy pulses over your treatment area(s). While most patients experience mild discomfort, it's generally bearable given the quick treatment length. You will be able to leave your appointment and get back to your normal everyday activities; however, your skin may be a little swollen and pink. This will subside in about a day and can be masked with makeup. We recommend you apply a cream on your skin's surface to minimize irritation and promote healing. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication can help decrease swelling if needed. After several days, the blemishes under your skin will rise to the surface and begin to flake off. It's very important that you do not pick at your skin. While you will see results after the first treatment, your complexion will attain optimal results after several treatments. Dr. Steckler recommends 3 – 6 sessions performed around once a month for best results.
