What Is A Fat Transfer?
As men and women age or lose weight, they may lose volume in certain areas of their body. A new way to restore that lost volume is through a fat transfer. A fat transfer takes fat from one section on the body and injects it into a place that needs additional volume. Fat transfer procedures can be used on large areas such as the buttocks or breasts or on small areas such as the lips, cheeks, or under the eyelid (known as a facial fat transfer). Fat transfers are often chosen when a patient hopes to have a natural enhancement rather than having fillers or implants. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler uses the most effective methods for performing fat transfers. This procedure at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery creates gorgeous, soft outcomes. For more information, contact our Ridgeland, MS office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Steckler.
What Can I Expect From a Fat Transfer?
Whether you're receiving a traditional fat transfer or a facial fat transfer, you will be put under some form of anesthesia. The exact type of anesthesia or numbing method will depend on how much fat is being removed and where it's being reinstated. Liposuction is first performed using a cannula to carefully remove the fat, which is then separated and purified for reinjection. After preparing the injection site, the healthy fat tissue will be injected into the treatment areas. This process is repeated in layers until even smoothness has been attained. For larger areas, multiple injections will be needed. After your treatment, you will be sent home to heal. Keep in mind there are two different areas on the body recovering: the area liposuctioned and the injection sites. Additionally, the larger the treatment areas, the longer your recovery will take. Each area will appear swollen with some possible bruising, but results can be noticed almost immediately. This procedure yields great results, but there will be some resorption back into the body. There is almost no scarring that is noticeable with this procedure.
