What is Skin Lesion Removal?
When you examine your skin, you may see little growths or areas that appear different than the surrounding skin. These skin lesions or tumors can develop anywhere on your face and body. You may want a lesion removed if it is unattractive, painful, or irritating. Although most lesions are harmless and noncancerous, a lesion that has changed over time might need to be biopsied to see if it's a cancerous tumor. If you have a lesion you'd like examined or removed, schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery. How Are Skin Lesions and Tumors Treated?
Depending on the kind of lesion or tumor being addressed, there are numerous treatment options. A surgical excision may be suggested by Dr. Steckler, which involves cutting the skin irregularity out, along with some tissue and skin surrounding it. This is frequently done for cysts, moles, tumors, or other types of lesions that could be cancer or precancerous. Stitches will be needed, generally, and a therapeutic ointment is often used. Surface layer lesions may be removed with a surgical blade where Dr. Steckler will shave the skin in question away. Dr. Steckler may also recommend laser therapies, oral medications, or topical creams to minimize symptoms or the appearance of lesions. After your procedure, we will provide you with at-home care instructions for proper healing, as well as suggest follow-up appointments as necessary. Your skin could need up to a couple of weeks to heal depending on the type of treatment you received.
Remove Lesions and Tumors
Nearly every person has a skin lesion that they would love to see gone. Although most lesions do not require treatment (unless they start to itch, bleed, become inflamed, or are believed to be cancerous), you may want it removed for cosmetic reasons. Some may even experience tumors they would like to remove. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Steckler offers a complete evaluation of your lesion(s) and/or tumor(s) and is happy to review a variety of treatment choices with you.
