What is Nipple Correction?
Nipple correction can make all the difference after breast surgery. This procedure can help the breasts have a more feminine appearance after a breast reconstruction surgery, and can particularly make all the difference in the world for cancer survivors. Nipple reconstruction can be performed after a mastectomy to reduce the size of the nipples or to correct inverted nipples. Many of our patients have let us know that seeing their breasts with the nipple/areola complex makes them have better self-esteem and a better sense of body image. At Mississippi Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer this procedure to help women rebuild their breasts. During this procedure, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler is proud to help women create a realistic nipple appearance. How Does Nipple Reconstruction Work?
Nipple reconstruction is often performed several months following a breast reconstruction surgery. This is an outpatient procedure that takes place at our Ridgeland, MS facility. After discussing your needs and desires with you, Dr. Steckler will create a treatment plan to help you create your desired look. Your reconstruction surgery will vary depending on your particular needs. However, when creating reconstructed nipples, Dr. Steckler will use your own skin to create nipples by building up the skin. During nipple reduction, Dr. Steckler will reduce the size of your nipples to enhance the look of your breasts. In other cases, he can perform a minimally invasive procedure to help inverted nipples point outward instead of inward. The length of your procedure will depend on the surgery you are receiving, however, you can expect your procedure to last anywhere from 30 minutes – 2 hours. As with surgery time, your recovery will largely depend on your treatment plan but typically takes about two weeks. We will provide you with a number of instructions to help your healing process.
