What is Blepharoplasty?
Your eyes are a beautiful component of your face that deserves to be seen, but sometimes excess skin above or under the eyes can create an aged look. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler offers blepharoplasty (or eyelid surgery) at his Ridgeland, MS office to remove excess skin and lift the lower or upper eyelid to create a look that appears soft and rejuvenated. Countless men and women undergo eyelid surgery at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery to correct sagging skin, leading to improved functionality and facial appearance. Blepharoplasty, whether lower or upper, creates a more awakened appearance and can produce subtle yet noticeable improvements. If you want to learn more about rejuvenating your eyes with an eye lift, contact us to schedule a consultation with Dr. Steckler.
What Can I Expect from Blepharoplasty?
Your eyelid surgery can be done on the top eyelid by itself, on the bottom eyelid, or a blend of both treatments. Either way, a form of anesthesia will likely be used. Upper eyelid surgery is performed to diminish the folds of skin that droop over the eye to produce a more awakened and appealing look. The incision point is often placed along the natural crease to trim away skin and tissue. Lower blepharoplasty is performed to reduce puffy skin underneath the lower eyelid. With this procedure, an incision is typically made along the lash line to surgically remove tissue and fat, and the skin is gently lifted to create a smoother look. Your eyelid surgery can take up to two hours depending on whether one or both eyes are being treated. After this outpatient surgery, you should plan about a week to rest and recover at home. During this time, ice packs can help reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort. The results from eyelid surgery can last years. However, even though the results are lasting, aging does not stop — to maintain your surgical outcomes, nonsurgical treatments such as chemical peels and dermal fillers can help create a glowing appearance.
