What is PRF Therapy?

Hair loss is a concern for many adults. Whether brought on by age, genetics, hormones, health conditions, or over-styling, hair loss can be a troublesome and embarrassing problem. Thanks to advances in the hair restoration industry, new treatments have been developed to help slow, stop, and even reverse hair loss. One of these treatments is PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) therapy. This nonsurgical procedure provides promising results for men and women who have experienced balding and hair thinning. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler provides PRF therapy at his Ridgeland, MS office for men and women who want to take control of their hair loss. This powerful solution of growth factors and bioactive proteins can help strengthen your hair, giving you thicker, longer, healthier hair. What Can I Expect from PRF Therapy?

PRF therapy is a minimally invasive procedure and can usually be completed in about one hour. The procedure will begin by drawing a bit of your blood. We'll place it in a centrifuge which will spin the blood at a high speed to separate the platelets from the rest of your blood. We'll then apply a local anesthetic to your scalp to help you remain comfortable during your procedure. From there, the PRF solution will be injected into the treatment areas of your head. Microneedling can be performed to create micro-injuries in the epidermis, which allows the PRF to seep deep into the skin. While there is no downtime after your procedure, you may experience some redness, minor swelling, and tenderness where your injections were made. Typically, most of our patients begin to see their results after 4 – 6 months, with continued improvements for about a year after the first treatment. It's important to note that PRF cannot grow new hair follicles where you are already bald, but is used to reverse the miniaturization of hair follicles. We suggest maintenance treatments every nine months or so to maintain your fuller, healthier, longer hair.
