What is RF Skin Resurfacing?

Radiofrequency (RF) skin resurfacing at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery is a noninvasive cosmetic procedure that utilizes Fractora technology to emit pulsating beams of light onto the skin in order to remove damaged skin layer by layer. The treatment is great for correcting facial wrinkles and lines and for diminishing skin blemishes including pigmentation, acne scars, and other issues. RF skin resurfacing is considered a great treatment for Jackson, Madison, and surrounding Mississippi men and women who desire clearer, softer, younger-looking skin. Depending on the needs of your skin, this treatment can be customized and adjusted accordingly. Many of our patients love that there is little downtime associated for our RF skin resurfacing treatments. If you have any questions or concerns or would like to schedule a visit, contact our Ridgeland, MS office to schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Steckler.

How Does RF Skin Resurfacing Work?

To begin your RF skin resurfacing, we will apply a local anesthetic or another form of sedation, depending on the level of your treatment. Throughout your procedure, we will pass the Fractora laser over your skin, targeting your treatment areas. You will feel the heat of the laser followed by cold air from the system's built-in cooling device. The laser is designed to destroy damaged skin cells while also prompting new collagen production. After lighter resurfacing treatments, you can go home for your recovery. You may have redness, swelling, and irritation. This should subside within a couple of days, and the peeling process will occur over a 3 – 5-day period. For those who had a more intense resurfacing procedure, your treatment areas may be protected with dressings, and the swelling, irritation, and burning side effects will be stronger. Pain medication can used to lessen these symptoms during your 2 – 3-week recovery. No matter the level of treatment, your skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel off. It is important that you avoid scratching your skin during recovery. After the peeling is finished, your skin will feel smoother, younger, and clearer.
